Do you want to become a successful wellness professional? See our tips and advice from ACHS students and alumni.

2020 was a year full of difficulty and unexpected twists and turns, but it was also a time of growth. Despite everything that happened, many of our students and graduates found ways to thrive and help others through their wellness work.

We are so proud! Beyond that, we think that the advice they have shared in previous interviews on the ACHS blog is valuable and worth repeating. So, we've gathered together some of their tips and advice in this blog post. 

1. Start now, don't wait for everything to be perfect.

"You kind of just have to jump off the ledge and find your wings on the way down. There’s never really going to be a right time, so to speak. I would recommend getting yourself out there, even before you open your business. Introduce yourself to other holistic practitioners in the area. That’s who you’re going to network with. Don’t look at everybody else as competition, look at them as your allies."

2. Be flexible.

Allowing for some flexibility is key to good time management. "I typically look at my planner at the beginning of the day in the morning, just to get a birds-eye view of what I have to do today. If there are some items without a deadline, I might push them to a different day so my day isn't too full. Every day is different and you never know what will happen, so just be okay with shifting things around if need be."

3. Practice gratitude.

"Early in the morning when you first wake up do a gratitude session. I do one for about 10 minutes. When you jump straight out of bed and into your life, everything hits you and you can start complaining. Traffic is too slow or this or that. When you get up in the morning and you set your mind in a certain state and just give thanks for the breath in your body, or the bed, or the couch, or wherever you’re resting, just give thanks. Know that if you want more, that can come, but you need to be happy with what you have now. The rest of the day you have a positive outlook instead of thinking things are negative. And your life will thank you for that."

4. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable.

" I was nervous too and even sometimes still am when I share my personal struggles or things that I’ve gone through, but I think it’s good to be vulnerable and be authentic and people can really resonate with that. Just sharing things that you learn, I think it could really benefit a lot of people. Even if it's scary, do it anyways. A lot of things that I’ve done really scared me a lot actually, and I've just done it and it paid off. " -Courtney Brady, MS in CAM
