Maybe you're investigating one of the many professional opportunities in holistic health and wellness. Perhaps you recently completed a program like the Certificate in Integrative Health & Fitness Training or even your Bachelor’s in Holistic Nutrition. No matter what your mile marker is, it's never too soon (or too late!) to start building a successful, satisfying career in alternative medicine. It's an industry with as many thriving offshoots as a redwood tree including aromatherapy, herbal medicine, wellness coaching, and holistic spa management, to name a few.
But, the first step to excelling on your chosen path is crushing any lingering self-doubt that’s keeping you from living your best life and making a real difference in the lives of others.
Here are 3 key ways to kickstart your self-confidence as a holistic health and wellness professional (and all-around awesome person!):
Networking like a boss brings you into a community of like-minded people where you can hook up with study partners, share ideas and make plans. If you're on campus, it's really easy to join these groups. But, it can be a bit more challenging for online students. Not to worry!
Don't be afraid to take initiative and create an online networking group if there's nothing available. Try asking your classmates and professors or posting a message on your college social media. Chances are that you're not the only one feeling unsure and looking for a community of support. Building social support improves your confidence and makes it easier to network like a pro later.
We’d also highly recommend you find a holistic health and wellness-themed conference or industry event in your area so you can get a little face time with students, professionals, and potential mentors doing what you want to do.
Having a dynamic résumé is a pivotal step in reaching your professional goals. Creating your first résumé doesn't have to wait until you've earned your aromatherapy certificate or your degree in herbal medicine. A résumé, after all, is a glance at your skills and achievements.
Did you start that study group yet? Add it to your résumé. The “president of careers in holistic health networking group” has a snazzy ring to it. Include the diverse classes that you've taken. Don't be afraid to sprinkle your résumé with volunteer work, too. Not only does it tell potential employers that you've been busy, but volunteering also shows character. Character building helps you feel better about yourself and increases confidence, which helps you succeed in the long run.

Many of us have a fear of public speaking, but many successful holistic health and wellness professionals make their living this way. It's important to remember that people who come to hear you speak are there because they choose to be there.
Bottom line: your audience at this point is composed of people who want information. No one is going to giggle or throw a spit wad. Besides, you've been networking since your immersion in that study group and have a dynamic résumé. You're now ready to speak to people who are confident in your ability to tell them about holistic health and wellness. (Here are 3 specific steps you can take to skyrocket your public speaking skills.)
