7 Practical College Tips for Students | achs.edu

In the last blog of the series you may recall I interviewed Angie Jackson. Angie offered this excellent tip for students struggling in their studies: My advice on studying, in general, is to slow down!  It’s not a race to get through the chapter. Read each chapter like it’s something to be enjoyed. Meditate on it, chew on it, think it through. If you speed-read your way through, you’ll only have to go back through it later.

An excellent tip for all students! I continue ACHS's series of interviews with ACHS Adult Skills Education Program Scholarship (ASEP) recipent Jennifer Combs. Jennifer is enrolled in the Master of Science in Herbal Medicine program. She offers seven practical academic tips for any current or prospective college student. I really love Jennifer's helpful and passionate attitude; it's truly inspirational. Enjoy our conversation--I know I did.

Q: Tell me why you chose ACHS for your accredited holistic health degree?

A: I chose American College of Healthcare Sciences for my accredited holistic health degree because this college is nationally accredited with a flexible distance-learning program, recognized by the American Herbalists Guild and the Better Business Bureau, has warm reviews by previous graduates, and for their reputation of dedication to the success of their students along with being continually supportive of military families.

Q: What do you like most about your CAM program?

A: What I like most about my accredited Master of Science in Herbal Medicine program is that it provides me with the opportunity and tools to accomplish my dream of freeing the world of unhealthy dependence, furthering my ability to create an outreach program that will enhance lives of others by treating the entire person: spiritually, physically and emotionally and empower them with the understanding and knowledge of how God has given us everything we need to heal and be at peace by using the Earth's natural resources we have been blessed with.

Q: What do you enjoy most about studying online with ACHS?

A: I enjoy the flexibility of the online classes and study tools along with the dedication of the online professors, like Oleg Maksimov, who ensures that his students are able to apply the knowledge they are attaining, and I love that we have online chat discussions and blogs which help me get to know other students who share my passion.

Q: Do you have any tips for success for prospective students who are thinking about getting started?

A: My tip for prospective students is to make their dreams reality. Nothing is impossible if you believe in yourself, work hard, stay focused on your goal and never quit.

Q: What advice do you have for current students that may be struggling in their studies?

A: Ask for help. Record the readings, listen to them, and then make outlines of each chapter. Another way is to ask those that are focused on seeing you succeed to test you on the subject matter. People who truly care about you will take time to help you learn and succeed.

Q: How does this scholarship help you achieve your goals?

A: The ASEP scholarship has brought me one more step toward achieving my goal by easing some of the financial burden and stress of funding college, thus allowing me more time to focus on my studies and be the best student I can be.

It's such a humbling experince working with excited and dedicated students like Jennifer. ACHS is proud to be able to provide, in partnership with Imagine America, the ASEP scholarship.
