Dump your artificially fragranced shampoo and whip up this nourishing blend that not only smells terrific, but also moisturizes your scalp and invigorates your hair. As a bonus, this terrific trio of oils can also support your mood and memory recall throughout the day.
Lavender Lavandula angustifolia essential oil: 36 drops
Rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil: 36 drops
Clary sage Salvia sclarea essential oil: 24 drops
Unscented shampoo base: 1 cup
Add essential oils to a conditioning natural shampoo base and stir well. In the shower, lather into hair massaging the essential oils and shampoo into your scalp and rinse.
Who needs synthetic flower fragrances when you can bottle the real thing yourself? These herbs are hydrating, stimulating, and will leave your hair with a natural, radiant shine.
Nettle Urtica dioica dried leaves: 10 teaspoons
Lavender Lavandula angustifolia dried flowers: 7 teaspoons
Sage Salvia officinalis herb: 6 teaspoons
Rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis herb: 5 teaspoons
Filtered water: 2 cups
Add all ingredients into a saucepan. Simmer in two cups of water for 10 to 15 minutes. Let herbs cool. Strain the herbs and bottle. Use in the shower after shampooing as a final rinse.
Seeing some flakes on the shoulders of your favorite black shirt? After you have shampooed with your homemade herbal shampoo, this herbal-infused dandruff rinse is a fantastic finale for your shower routine and will leave your scalp healthy and nourished.
Nettle Urtica dioica dried leaves: 1 tablespoon
Rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis dried leaves: 1 tablespoon
Apple cider vinegar (ACV): 2 tablespoons
Filtered water: 2 cups
Make an infusion with rosemary and nettle. (An infusion is similar to a tea, but it is steeped for a bit longer, and they are intended for immediate use.) Boil two cups of filtered water. Place your herbs in a glass or ceramic teapot and pour boiling water over herbs. Cover and let steep for 10 to 20 minutes. Let herbs cool. Strain the infusion in a non-aluminum strainer and add the apple cider vinegar. Store for no more than 24 hours in the fridge. Use it in the shower after shampooing as a final rinse.
If you lotion your body after the shower, don’t forget that your hair needs some emollient loving, too. This soothing, moisturizing oil will hydrate and strengthen your locks while you give yourself a well-deserved scalp massage—a relaxing and mood-boosting practice itself.
