ACHS recently caught up with 2013 scholarship recipient, Angie Jackson. She offered some wonderful advice for current and prospective students.

The American College of Healthcare Sciences is committed to helping students achieve their academic goals. Every year, ACHS partners with Imagine America to offer the ACHS Adult Skills Education Program Scholarship (ASEP) in the form of a one-time $1000 tuition scholarship. The College awards up to 10 ASEP scholarships each year!

ACHS Adult Skills Education Program Scholarship

I recently caught up with a 2013 recipient of the scholarship, Angie Jackson, and she offered some wonderful advice for current and prospective students. In our fast paced world, it can be easy to rush through our studies. One of the great benefits of distance education is the amount of time you’ll save, but that doesn’t mean you should speed through your study sessions. There are clear pay offs to taking your time while studying, and Angie Jackson is a prime example of why taking your time to study—even while taking courses online—will help you succeed. I really enjoyed our conversation, and I'm sure you will, too.

Q: Tell me why you chose ACHS for your accredited holistic health program?

A: There are a sea of options when it comes to obtaining an online education in holistic healthcare. After a great deal of research, I found that many of these sources seemed to have outdated information and didn’t appear to have much credibility. The questions I asked myself were: “What will help me create a credible business that potential client’s will respect?” “Where can I find the most up to date information?” and “How can I obtain the best education possible so that I can properly care for my clients?” Not only will attending ACHS give me the flexibility I need while working, but it will also give me the confidence I need to start a business upon completion.

Q: What do you like most about your Holistic Healthcare Diploma program?

A: I love the Holistic Healthcare Diploma program because it incorporates a little bit of everything. The program allows for an in depth study of the human body, nutrition, and many modalities of healing. I’ve always been interested in all forms of healing, so a program that covers a wide range of care is ideal for me.

Q: What do you enjoy most about studying online with ACHS?

A: Studying online is a great way to work with a top-notch school but at a distance. In my area, I have access to some great schools. However, due to the fact that my husband is in the military, we will be moving in the near future. The military lifestyle is not very conducive to staying in one place, and that makes studying online ideal. With so many online options available, it makes it especially important to find a credible school that is accredited.

Q: Do you have any tips for success for prospective students who are thinking about getting started?

A: From my experience, plan for each week’s course to take the recommended study hours. Some weeks will be lighter and some weeks will be heavier but you must always give yourself time for one of those tougher chapters. Also, use your gut instincts when studying for the final exam. The exam does not necessarily cover the chapters evenly. It may cover more on that tough chapter you didn’t leave enough time for!

Q: What advice do you have for current students that may be struggling in their studies?

A: My advice on studying, in general, is to slow down!  It’s not a race to get through the chapter. Read each chapter like it’s something to be enjoyed. Meditate on it, chew on it, think it through. If you speed-read your way through, you’ll only have to go back through it later. I like to make my study notes and/or note cards as I go. I also read the assignment requirements up front so that I can be thinking about what I want to do as I go through my reading. It also allows for enough time if the assignment takes a few days.

Q: How does this scholarship help you achieve your goals?

A: I’m very grateful for this scholarship as it is allowing me to get a jumpstart on my studies until other financial options open up!

It is so wonderful to watch our students succeed! I am excited that ACHS is able to help Angie reach her goals and pursue a diploma in Holistic Healthcare. The American College of Healthcare Sciences offers the ASEP scholarship in partnership with Imagine America.
