Impacting the Field of Holistic Health

Tanya recently graduated from ACHS with her Master of Science in Health and Wellness. Tanya’s journey into the holistic health field started when she was young. Her mother was a yoga teacher, and she was raised in an environment that encouraged complementary and alternative medicine practices. She realized as she got older that she really loved helping people be well and felt compelled to pursue this as a profession.

Tanya started volunteering to bring health and wellness resources into her workplace. This sparked an interest in continuing her path in the corporate wellness field. She worked full-time while in school at ACHS, and she now pairs her corporate wellness career with her own wellness consulting business, The Holistic Remedy

Graduate School Experience with ACHS

When selecting the best graduate school for her goals, Tanya says, “ACHS was an easy choice!” She regarded ACHS to have high-quality courses for the subjects that were most important to her, including Holistic Nutrition and Wellness Consulting. She could maintain working full-time while going to school because of ACHS’s flexible online classes, where she could study remotely on her own schedule.

In Tanya’s words, “the professors at ACHS were excellent.” She reflects on having a great experience with one of her instructors, Shawn Hallum, who facilitated her Wellness Coaching and Communication Skills course. She highly recommends this class for any graduate student who wants to learn coaching fundamentals. She feels this class tied together everything she learned in her program with a practical application, including practicing her coaching skills.

Success as a Holistic Business Owner

Tanya describes her business, The Holistic Remedy, as a holistic health coaching and consulting service with an emphasis on integrative health & wellness, holistic nutrition, and alternative medicine.

Her approach addresses the interrelatedness of mind, body, and soul to create a truly holistic plan for each individual. Tanya’s goal is to offer compassionate support, individualized evidence-based guidance, and practical tools to empower her clients to reclaim their health and restore balance in their lives. She loves to explore natural ways to address the root causes of their health concerns rather than merely treating symptoms.

Tanya’s offerings currently include healthy lifestyle coaching, stress management, mindfulness techniques, balanced nutrition planning, mind-body approach to movement, restorative sleep rehabilitation, and herbal remedy support, with a focus on women’s hormonal health.

Tanya’s favorite part of her job is helping her clients reach milestones. She loves to see the look on a client’s face when they realize the progress they made. This is always a special moment in her practice.

Advice to Her Peers

Tanya highly encourages ACHS students and alumni to volunteer and promote health and wellness within their workplaces. She says that even if you are not being paid, this can lead to future opportunities and provide invaluable experience.

Tanya shares her wisdom to new entrepreneurs in the health and wellness field. She advises that if you feel overwhelmed, just know that every other business owner has started out feeling this way. Break everything down into small steps and take it one day at a time. Lean on your network, especially coaches and mentors who can guide you along the way. She recommends you “enjoy the journey! You can feel like you want to rush to the finish line, but enjoy the process and slow down.”

We wish Tanya all the best in her business ventures and future endeavors.
