ACHS graduate Carrie overcame vision loss and brain trauma to pursue her passion for herbal sciences. Learn how she's helping others achieve wellness with natural remedies.

Carrie initially attended American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS) in 1997 when it was  The Australasian College of Herbal Sciences in 1997. She returned to ACHS in 2020 to complete the Associate of Applied Science in Complementary Alternative Medicine and graduated in the Spring of 2023. Carrie felt motivated to pursue her degree after a series of impactful events left her with vision loss and brain trauma. While rehabilitating her vision loss, she was inspired to continue her education with ACHS after the experiences she’d had from 1997-1999. Due to unforeseen circumstances, she was unable to finish her certificate programs at that time, and she is immensely proud to celebrate her graduation in 2023.

Experience with ACHS

Carrie states that “American College of Healthcare Sciences has not only aided me in the knowledge I need to help those in need, but it also helped me to grow beyond what I ever thought possible.” She feels that ACHS “is not just here to run as an institution. The school and staff truly care about you as an individual and are always there to help you when in need.” Carrie enjoyed the instruction in her classroom and says that ACHS instructors helped with everything from navigating through the assignments to providing stellar communication and compassion.

Advice to ACHS students

Carrie leads by example by overcoming obstacles in pursuit of her dreams. She advises her peers, “Do not let anything get in your way to success.” She states “I learned how to navigate accessibility to go to school.” She advocated for her needs and did not let anything stop her from reaching her goals. This tenacity allowed Carrie to live her passion and build a successful business where she supports her community.

Carrie’s advice to others pursuing a path in holistic health and wellness is that “You just have to go for it. No one will achieve their goals without putting themselves out there. It will be uncomfortable and awkward, but once others know your dreams, you will find more support than ever imagined. It is an amazing feeling to be confident in what you know and an even more amazing feeling when others seek you out for your help.”

Carrie says “I no longer define myself by my disabilities, but by my ability to overcome challenges presented to me.”  Her thriving business exemplifies this as she keeps pushing past her comfort level and reaching for new goals along the way. Carrie is building an addition to her business and is working on obtaining funding to build a 508(c)(1)(a) non-profit organization called Pself, Inc. that will serve her community for soul work and to use entheogenic medicine in conjunction with the services provided within The Green-Eyed Cat.
