ACHS faculty member Amanda Lattin achieves Registered Aromatherapist status through ARC! Keep reading to learn more about this industry designation!

Amanda Lattin"I am so excited to be a part of furthering the field of Aromatherapy. It is a modality I am passionate about and believe its safe practice can offer health support to people from all walks of life, both in the U.S. and internationally," says Amanda Lattin, American College of Healthcare Sciences researcher and faculty member.

Lattin achieved Registered Aromatherapist (RA) status from the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) in April 2013 by successfully passing the ARC examination. ARC was established in 1999 and is a national organization that offers the Registered Aromatherapist exam twice a year both within the U.S. and internationally. ARC also provides a register of professional Registered Aromatherapists that can be publically accessed from their website at http://aromatherapycouncil.org/?page_id=88. The ARC Register recognizes aromatherapists, such as Lattin, who have demonstrated a core body of aromatherapy knowledge (specifically, essential oil safety) through successfully passing the examination, ensuring credibility to the public and other medical professionals.

Amanda has had a passion for growing and using nutritional and medicinal plants since she planted her first garden at age six. She followed this passion and inquiry while finishing her B.A. in Chemistry at Huntingdon College, where she performed research on Ionic Liquids, the Study of Chinese Culture through Chemical Analysis, and Transitional Metal Oxides in Tattoo Pigments. She also traveled to China with Huntingdon College to share water quality research after the opening of the Three Gorges Dam.

Amanda continued her education by completing her Master’s of Teaching with a concentration in Chemistry at Lewis and Clark College. There her thesis designed curriculum about the Geochemistry of the Oregon John Day Region. After teaching chemistry at West Linn High School, Lattin returned to her interest in medicinal plants and began studying essential oils with Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt at the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy. She continued her studies by completing her diplomas in Aromatherapy and Herbal Studies at ACHS. Amanda also trained for a year in Applied Kinesiology with Dr. Robert Ciprian, DC, D.I.B.A.K.

Lattin taught the chemistry of essential oils at the College of Botanical Healing Arts in Santa Cruz, as well as a variety of workshops and seminars. She has written articles on aromatherapy and serves as a subject consultant for various schools. Lattin’s Aromatherapy and Herbal Consulting practice has continued to serve Portland residents since 2008. She is now on staff at ACHS as both a researcher and faculty member. Amanda is currently teaching AROMA 101  Introduction to Aromatherapy Online and AROMA 303 Aromatherapy II Online.

ACHS is the only nationally accredited, Alliance of International Aromatherapists Level II and III professional clinical aromatherapy training available in the United States. ACHS offers specialized training in aromatherapy chemistry, along with a wide variety of online, professional holistic health certificate and diploma programs. ACHS also offers the only accredited AAS with an aromatherapy major and the only MS in Aromatherapy available in the United States. CEUs are available for many health professionals, including Registered Aromatherapists (RA), RNs, and LMTs.

Dorene is the Founding President of the American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS). She has over 45 years of clinical teaching and lecturing experience in aromatherapy and other holistic health subjects. She has presented papers on essential oils and clinical aromatherapy at the International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades Annual Conference (IFEAT) in California, USA; the Aroma Environment Association of Japan (AEAJ) in Tokyo, Japan; the Asian Aroma Ingredients Congress (AAIC) and Expo in Bali, Indonesia; the International Center of Advanced Aromatherapy (ICAA) at the WonGwang Digital University in Seoul, Korea; as well as the AAIC Expo in Kunming, Yunnan, China. Dorene is a founding member of the Aromatherapy Registration Council (ARC) and served as its chair until 2023. Dorene is also involved in the distance education community and has served as a volunteer, committee member, and standards evaluator for the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC). Dorene is a travel junkie, and has led ACHS Study Abroad programs to India, Indonesia, Greece, and Hawaii!
